Lessons in Love - Chicory Flower Essence

Defect: Restriction/Retention
Lesson: Love

Dr. Bach developed this remedy in 1930 in Cromer. He wrote about Chicory Flower Essence:

"for those who are very mindful of the needs of others; they tend to be over-full of care for children, relatives, friends, always finding something that should be put right. They are continually correcting what they consider wrong, and enjoy doing so. They desire that those for whom they care should be near them."

Nora Weeks, Dr. Bach's assistant, wrote accounts of this remedy's early use on two patients who fit the description of the Chicory-type personality. One had chronic severe indigestion and cardiac flutters keeping her in bed. Another had deafness and catarrh lasting a year. Each was treated by Dr. Bach with Chicory flower essence. Both were completely relieved of their illnesses within months, and both found much more ease in their relationships with their families and persons under their care.

When treating patients and clients who come for Bach Flower Essence Therapy Consultations, physical signs and symptoms are clues that point to the personality type which is what we treat. This, in turn, relieves signs and symptoms. Flower essence therapy is a kind of structural medicine, affecting the person's mind, emotions and body--the sum total of one's personality.

To love someone is to set them free. Not allowing our loved ones to be free is an attitude that creates stagnant Liver Qi which can lead to all sorts of Blood and Heat disorders as well as difficult and painful relationships. We may use Chicory flower essence in many gynecological problems and cases of fluid retention. We know that the uterus must retain (sperm, a fetus), but it must also release (menstruation and birth). Many cardiac and breast issues may also be addressed with Chicory flower essence when, as mentioned, we pay attention to the personality we are treating.

Most Chicory cases are unconscious of the way their love for others has a price tag. The flower essences helps these people to eventually become aware of the defect in their approach to love. As they grow into the virtue of Love given freely, physical symptoms are also relieved.

The liquid lesson in Chicory flower essence:
To love freely. This relaxes the mind, calms the heart, and allows the free flow of Qi and fluids in the body.
